Summer 2007
Well, summer is in fully swing, and we are back to traveling and staying busy. We had a wonderful time in Europe, although
the trip was too short, as always! I had a bit of an issue with my passport and was not even sure if I would make the trip,
so we were forced to be a bit spontaneous in our plans. We had to abandon the Greece idea, so we ended up renting a car and
going to Amsterdam and several cities within Germany.
I was very pleasantly surprised by Amsterdam. It's lovely. Much prettier and enjoyable than I expected. The people are
wonderful, the city is immensely walkable with canals bordering almost every street, beautiful architecture, lots of museums,
and great international cuisine. We really had a great time!
We spent most of our time in Europe with Kris's family--visiting various homes and helping his Uncle Berndt celebrate
his 60th birthday. It was great to see everyone and to see so much more of the country than I had before. We took a drive
down along the Rhine river and were able to see the vineyards and several castles.
Last weekend we visited So Cal to help cheer Melissa on as she competed in the Carlsbad Triathlon. My sister is
officially a triathlete, and we could not have been more proud--she did awesome! We wrapped the weekend up with some wakeboarding
with her and Orville. Now, Kris and I are longing for warm enough weather up to here to be able to take off and do some more!
The house hunt continues, but not much has changed. Still a small amount of inventory, no rush on our side, and ridiculous
prices. We'll find the right mix eventually.
Seems like the summer is flying by, and Kris will be gone for a good chunk of August while fishing in Alaska. I'm planning
to use the time to improve my sailing abilities with some lessons and trips. Eventually, we need to take some flying lessons
as well, but I think that task might have to be put off till next summer!
February
2007
After
much traveling, Kris and I are both home for a while. He was in Hilton head, SC and Minnesota, and I got to alternate my climates
as well with a trip to Florida and Chicago.
I have really been missing Chicago lately, and was a bit worried
that my first trip back would leave me longing for our old home and city. Luckily for Kris, there was no need to worry. While
I still love the Windy City,
I can live without the -20 degree weather that Bree, Brucie and I experienced. It was actually painful to breathe. How did
I live like that for two whole years?!?!? But it was nice to be back, even if only for a
weekend.
We
celebrated our one year anniversary last month. It's hard to believe that our wedding was over a year ago--time does fly!
It was a great first year and we had a lot of changes. I changed jobs, Kris got promoted, and as usual, we got to travel a
bunch. We spent our anniversary weekend down at Pajaro Dunes with the pooch. Unfortunately, Kris was pretty sick, so it ended
up being a very mellow weekend, but it was nice to have the time together.
Now
we are busy planning our next trip. We are going to Germany again in June to visit Kris's family. We've decided to also make
a side trip over the Greece for a few days. I've neven been and Kris was there for only a short time, so we are very excited
to explore a new place together. The tentative itinerary is to hit Athens first, and then head over to Santorini for a couple
of days in the sun and on the beaches. After Greece, we'll meet up with the von Arnim clan in Bremen for a few days. It should
be another fun trip for us!
Work has been pretty busy
for both of us. I keep proposing that we both quit our jobs, put all of our stuff in storage and travel the world for six
months or so. Kris continues to think I am nuts. So we both keep plugging along at work.
We are still sort-of house
hunting. The market here is still very strong and there are not a lot of options, so we're content waiting until something
we really like comes along. I'm a bit worried that I'll be 40 years old before I own a house again, but hopefully something
will change here in the Bay Area in the next year or so.
